1. Why do you think Andrew Yeom Soo-jung is only the third ever Korean cardinal? 2. How does his promotion to cardinal reflect on Korea's standing in the world? 3. Is Andrew Yeom Soo-jung's promotion to cardinal meaningful essentially just to Catholics or does this development have a broader to meaning for all Korean? Why so? There are 199 cardinals around the world, and now there's only one Korean cardinal. Because Korea was Buddism nation, there are many temples and cultural relics about Buddism around whole peninsula. So there are many believers in Buddism in Korea. Also, after the independance from Japan, American solders came into Korea. They also brought American culture, and religion of America. Most of them were Protestantism, not Catholics. So there are not much Catholics believer in Korea. And that's the reason why there are only one Korean cardinal around the world. But many Europeans are Catholics, because Europe is the hometown of Catholics. And that means Catholics nations are strong. So if there aren't Catholics cardinals in Korea, it will reflect to Korea soon. But I don't think that his promotion is the happy occation of Korea, because there are not much Catholics believers in Korea. But it is a good thing for the standing of Korea around the world. Teacher! Thank you for having a class with me tonight. And thank you for being considerate to me tonight. I have to go now. See you tomorrow! Annie.
