Do you know what the most interesting thing is? A long time ago ketchup was sold as medicine in the United States! In 1830, a tomato mixture, which is tomato sauce seasoned with vinegar, salt and sugar, and diverse spices, was sold as a medicine in pharmacies or drugstores. People believed it made them healthier and could cure any disease.Today¡¯s tomato ketchup was devised by the American Henry J. Heinz in 1876. His company, F&J Heinz, first launched ketchup products that included tomatoes. He is believed to have been the first man to make standardized tomato ketchup. Interestingly, at the time, his company put colors in their ketchup to make them more delicious. From green, purple, and pink to orange and blue, his ketchup was popular. Unfortunately, the colored ketchups no longer exist.
