The flying squirrel is a medium-sized rodent. There are about 50 different species of flying squirrel around the world. It ranges in size and color depending on its species, but it is a little bit larger in size than the common squirrel. The largest species the Woolly flying squirrel, and the smallest is the Pygmy flying squirrel.Flying squirrels have very large eyes and their eyesight is excellent. Also, they are really good at jumping. They can jump about 6 m! They are also good at running. They can run about 32 km per hour!They usually live in a hole in a tree or inside dead branches. In addition, they usually eat nuts, seeds, fruits, berries, insects and bird eggs. Sometimes, they eat meat.To our surprise, flying squirrels communicate with each other in a special way. They talk by making chirping sounds and with tail movements! How interesting!In Korea, the flying squirrel was designated as a natural monument. It is endangered and so it is being protected now.
