After Percy learns that he is a demigod, he meets Luke, and befriends him. A few days later, when the half bloods play 'Capture the flag' a hellhound appears and attacks them, and by that event, Percy becomes claimed by Poseidon, and makes Zeus angry because he suspects Posiedon's son stole his lightning bolt. So Percy goes on a quest to find the real lightning thief with Grover and Annabeth, and he meets a lot of monsters such as Medusa, the Furies, Echidna, Chimera and a lot more. Then, he meets Ares and gets his shield for him, and then he goes to the underworld because he suspected Hades stole the bolt, but he didn't have it and it turned out that Ares had it, but when he gets back to camp, Luke tries to kill Percy by a pit scorpion and tells him that he will join Kronos.
