Olivia: I do not think pedestrian green lights need to be longer. The current time is enough for many children and seniors. If every signal adds seconds, cars will wait longer, thus creating more traffic, noise, and pollution. Instead of changing all signals, cities should focus on installing clear countdown timers and repainting crosswalk markings to help people cross safely.
Liam: Pedestrian green lights should be longer. Older adults, parents with strollers, and people using wheelchairs often move more slowly. Rain, snow, and dark evenings also make crossing harder. A few extra seconds can reduce rushing and prevent accidents. Safety should come before car speed. But to keep traffic moving, cities can add time only where it is needed.
